Description : In October 2010, the Nigerian National Sugar Development Council initiated the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan (NSMP) to boost domestic sugar production to 1.7 million metric tons within ten years. Approved by the Federal Executive Council in 2012, the plan aimed to enhance the sugar industry through fiscal incentives and identified 28 projects for implementation. However, by January 2023, the plan fell short, with Nigeria still facing over a 95% sugar consumption deficit. Consequently, the NSDC has been tasked with creating a revised plan that assesses past performances, reviews policies, and updates industry conditions to achieve the original production targets.
